The Third Space is described as the setting where we spend our time between home and work — our car interiors. As the automotive industry races toward full autonomy, the experiences commuters can have in these spaces grows exponentially.
Hutch is a music, podcast, and audiobook media solution that allows users to seamlessly switch between the media types through an intuitive, dynamic interface.
Clean font styles and minimal design language ensure media content is consistently visible throughout the application.
Four permanent home buttons docked to the left (driver's side) of the screen provide easy access for switching media types or returning to the default OS.
Each of the application's media types have a unique colorway allowing users to quickly recognize which content is selected.
Depth is implemented throughout the design bringing clarity on selected content.
Touchpoints are spaced adequately to avoid unintentional selections — especially useful in automotive application where adjustments in a driver's field of vision should be kept to a minimum.
From ideation to prototype, as design elements evolved no detail was overlooked. First, user functions were chosen followed by multiple iterations of concept sketches.
Next, digital wireframes were created based on the chosen concept sketches using Figma. Through careful consideration of design elements such as color, font, imagery, spacing, and scale, working prototypes are born.
This user flow follows Kim as she opens Hutch, choses music to listen to and views what’s on the queue before exiting the application to return to her car’s native OS.
